MPs, nobody vulnerable, you deal and open 1 and it procedes (pass) 1 (1NT).
What are the meanings of your possible calls here and how is partner expected to react to each?

For a start, without any special agreements, perhaps...
-- Double= PEN 14+ HCP.
-- Pass = NAT, Usually BAL 11-13.
-- 2/3/4 = PRE. Weak 4+ .
-- 2/3 = PRE. Weak.
-- 2/ = NAT N/F Weak, shapely.
-- 2N = ART 6+ s 4+ s.
-- 3/ = NAT shapely 5+ 5.

Alternatively
- Double = ART Support exactly 3 s.
- Pass = F1.

Thanks very much Nige. That's close to what I would assume, except for the 2N - could you elaborate please?

My main doubt was about how people are using Double here, because Penalty 14+ is not great I think (at least for us playing in an RA that disallows psyches at club level). I can see the case for Support Double but we're not ready to cross that bridge yet.

I was also wondering if anyone was using 2 as artificial here, and if so with what responses/developments.
